The Ultimate Strength & Conditioning Training Facility

The Ultimate Strength & Conditioning Training Facility will be open early March 2013.
We are not your typical gym. You will not find a single treadmill, or cross trainer, or fancy equipment. We don't have TV screens all over the place, and we don’t use an air conditioning system. What you will find is tyres, sledgehammers, punch bags, kettlebells, ropes, sandbags, beer kegs & other pieces of equipment that will get you lean, fit & strong, fast, whilst being fun to use.

We have classes for beginners, intermediate, and advance trainees.

We also have boxing classes, womens only classes & youth classes Age 11-15.

Classes are £5 each, or £30 for the month.

Our USC classes involve a combination of high intensity interval training (HIIT), boxing, MMA & strongman drills, that give you a full body workout, designed to strip fat, build strength, endurance and cardiovascular ability, whilst giving you a lean, fit and strong athletic physique.

Writer to Fighter: Start of the Diet by Ste Passey

Writer to Fighter: Start of the Diet Details Published on Monday, 11 February 2013 00:44 Written by Ste Passey At the start of the year I jumped on the scales and to my dismay I weighed a whopping 13st2 (184lbs/83kg). This is the heaviest I had been for a long time and I put it down to overindulging at Christmas. On 02/01/13 I started my new eating and training regime, operation get into shape was all systems go! I started running and made my way back to Next Generation MMA for training. As for my diet I am learning as I go. I follow the simple rules of low carbs, low fat, high protein. I basically live off eggs, chicken, kidney beans, chickpeas, tuna, sardines, vegetables, salad, porridge and green tea. These are the main components to my meals. I also take daily multi-vitamins and cod liver oil. On a typical day I will eat the following: Breakfast: Small bowl of Porridge with Honey Lunch: 3-egg omelette (no milk) or Sardines with Vegetables Dinner: Chicken and Kidney Bean/Chickpea Casserole In addition to that I drink as much water and/or juice I can stomach. I also drink 2 or 3 cups of green tea per day. The first few days of this lifestyle change were hell. I had suffered my migraines and mood swings. I attribute this to my body craving the sugary energy drinks I used to consume on a daily basis. After going cold turkey for 3 or 4 days the haze cleared and I felt a million times better. My mindset has also changed: I see food more as fuel rather than a luxury. Furthermore, I now actually enjoy these meals as my tastebuds have become accustomed to my new diet. After 4 weeks of training and eating right I dropped 1st3lbs (17lbs/8kg) and weighed 11st13lbs (167lbs/75kg). This is the first time in years I have been below 12st. I am now proud to be a USC Nutrition sponsored athlete. USC Nutrition is a new supplement brand with excellent products at low prices. In order to help with my diet and training I am using their Diet Whey Plus, Fat Burners and Ultimate Recovery Shakes. DIET WHEY PLUS 30g Protein 1g Fat 3g Carbs Green Tea ACAI Berry CLA 23 servings for £20 FAT BURNERS Strip Fat Reduce Appetite Raise Metabolism Increase Energy Levels 60 caps for £20 With the help of USC Nutrition I am sure I will reach my goals! Chino Nwinyinya ACB MMA Champion

Chino Nwinyinya trains like a champion and is aiming to get closer to becoming a champion at ACB 5. There he fights Koko Toychev in what looks a great fight. Chino took some time out to answer some of my questions.

Hi Chino, thanks for taking the time to do this. Can you tell people a little about yourself?

“I’m Chino Nwinyinya, 20 years of age and train out of the MMA academy. I have been training under Jason Tan for the past year and a half. My MMA record is MMA record 5-3″.

You are fighting at ACB 5 in March. Who is your opponent and how much do you know about him?

“My opponent is Koko Toychev and from what I know he likes to come forward and has a good ground game as well”.

What do you see as your best weapon in this fight?

“I would say my best weapon in a fight is my diversity and the fact that I can adapt to any situation, whether it’s standing or on the ground”.

How is your training going? Is there anything you’ve had to change for this fight?

“Everything is going great in this camp and no I haven’t changed anything. I just train hard and bring my A game to the fight”.

Have you fought at ACB before? if yes how was the experience?

“Yes I have fought at ACB before, two times infact. The first time was against Dalton Thorne which I thought I won and most thought I won but lost it to a split decision. But in the rematch I won once again”.

I will never experience getting into the cage and fighting. And for that I have so much respect for everyone who does it. What’s the feeling like when the cage door is shut and it’s just you and your opponent?

“When I enter the cage, to be honest, I’m not fazed because I have put all the work in the gym and the guys I train with are all at a high level. So it gives me confidence when I enter the cage”.

How did you first get into Mixed Martial Arts?

“I start doing a bit of boxing which was nothing serious and then just decided to throw myself into a MMA fight and it all started there”.

What do you find as the most challenging aspect of MMA?

”I would say the dieting because it can be draining, mentally and physically”.

What is your favourite martial art to train?

“I would have to say BJJ”.

What is the best thing about fighting and what motivates you to?

“Getting your hand raised, then knowing all your hard work has paid off and the competition motivates me. I just want to try and be the best”.

What’s is the biggest piece of advice you have ever received?

“If you want to be a champion, you’ve got to start training like one”.

Thanks again for taking the time. Anybody you’d like to thank?

“I would like to thank all my coaches and team mates. Also my sponsor USC who have played a big part in my training”.

Aaron Aby speaks ahead on his fights inside and outside the cage - splitdecisionMMA.com

Aaron Aby is a fast-rising featherweight fighter who fights out of the MMA Academy Liverpool. He is a sufferer of Cystic Fibrosis and fights to raise awareness of CF. He is currently 7-0 so far and makes his Full Contact Contender debut at FCC – 5, in March, where he takes on Billy Hatton. He took some time out to answer some questions on Cystic Fibrosis, his upcoming fight and his MMA journey so far.

Hi Aaron, thanks for taking the time to answer some questions. Can you tell people a little about yourself?

“I’m Aaron Aby, I fight out of the MMA Academy Liverpool, and I’m a sufferer of Cystic Fibrosis. I fight to raise awareness of CF”.

I have just seen your fighting to breathe video and it was really touching to see what you battle each day but how much you have come through in life and are now making waves in MMA. Can you tell me more about the condition and the work you do for Cystic Fibrosis?

“Cystic Fibrosis is one of the UK’s most common inherited diseases. It effects the lungs and digestive system mainly, making it hard to breathe and digest food. The average life expectancy for someone for CF is 41. However it is on the rise. (More stats can be found on cf trust website – details below). My work for CF involves public speaking at dinners, schools and charity events. I have organised a few events myself and have raised over £20,000 for the charity”.

You are making your FCC debut at FCC 5 against Billy Hatton. How much do you know about him?

“It is my FCC debut on march 16th. I know Billy Hatton has a very good Muay Thai boxing background, but I’m just concentrating on myself and my game”.

What do you see as your best weapon in this fight?

“My best weapon, as in every fight, is my heart and what i represent. I’m not just fighting for myself , my team and my coaches. I’m fighting to raise awareness of CF and provide hope to families dealing with the condition”.

How is your training going? Is there anything you’ve had to change for this fight?

“Training is going well. I just train to improve. Its always developing and I’m always trying to get better”.

What is your official fighting record and how far do you think you can go in MMA? And does being unbeaten add any extra pressure when you fight?

“My record is actually 6-0. I think i can go as far as possible. I’m willing to push myself to the limit and dedicate my life to MMA and I’m willing to give everything to it. Being unbeaten i don’t feel any added pressure. I take one fight at a time and i always want to win and raise awareness in doing so. I have to remember its not just about me or winning: its about more than that”.

How did you get into MMA?

“I used to play football at a professional club but was released due to the fact i had Cystic Fibrosis! My Uncle Julian Aby had an MMA class as he is a coach under Erik Paulson. So i started going there once a week and it all snowballed from there. I started wanting to fight and eventually became full time. I didn’t have many training partners back then so i would beat up my dad and that made it fun”.

What is your favourite aspect of MMA?

“I honestly love everything about MMA”.

I will never experience getting into the cage and fighting. And for that I have so much respect for everyone who does it. What’s the feeling like when the cage door is shut and it’s just you and your opponent?

“The feeling of the cage door shutting is relaxing. Its just like training then, which you do every day. It becomes a battle of skill and determination. I’m in the zone ready to go”.

What is the best thing about fighting and what motivates you to fight?

“I love fighting and enjoy the competition. I’m motivated by my enjoyment but most of all to prove that no matter what circumstances life throws at you, you can control it and still make something of yourself! I’m motivated to motivate others and I want there to be a cure for CF so families and people i know don’t have to suffer!

Who are the most inspirational people in your life? Has anyone had a really big impact/help on your career?

“I’m inspired by alot of people! I take good things from everyone! Alot of people have impacted my career! Family and friends. My dad has always pushed me to believe and follow my dreams! He is like my life coach. My mum and Jez have always supported me and helped me and been there for me. My Uncle Julian got me involved in the sport and started me on my journey. But everyone supports me and everyone inspires me! Jason Tan and Peter Davies and all the guys from MMA Academy and SBG have had a big impact on my career and I couldn’t be where I am now or where I’m going to go without them”.

Thanks again for the interview. Is there anybody you would like to thank?

“I would like to thank my family and friends for supporting me. The guys at the MMA Academy and SBG for developing me. All my training partners and Coaches. The CF trust! USC for sponsoring me and providing me with supplements. IPC for conditioning and dieting. And my supporters who come and watch me no matter what. They are the loudest fans per head ratio in any sport. I would also like to thank Ross pearson for supporting me and helping raise my CF profile. And lastly to Haylie for being my chef (laughs)”.

Aaron’s message is a strong one and we can all learn alot from him. If you would like to know more about CF, please visit: http://www.cftrust.org.uk/And to see Aaron’s video please visit: http://www.fightingtobreathe.co.uk/

Writer to Fighter, by Ste Passey

This year I have made it my own personal mission to finally get inside the cage and compete in an actual MMA bout. I hope come the summer of 2013 I will have the skills necessary to give a good account of myself and not have my head ripped off!

I do not have any martial arts or combat sports background of note. I trained in traditional Jiu-Jitsu between the ages of 6 and 12. I became the clubs youngest ever junior black belt at 10 years old. Unfortunately, I quit as friends, football and girls took over my young life LOL. During my teenage years I got involved in more than my fair share of street fights and took up boxing for a short while. After only 1 amateur bout I stopped that too. That was pretty much it until approximately 2 years ago I walked into Next Generation MMA in Liverpool, UK and began from scratch learning MMA on a casual basis.

I am now 26 years old, father of 3 young boys (aged 10, 7 and 4 years old) and a devoted husband to my beautiful wife. Over the next few months I intend to push my body and mind to the limits in order achieve the required skill level to fight at an amateur level in MMA. This will not be an easy feat as I will need to balance family, work, my website and training. In my head I have all this pretty much figured out, but the application may prove to be the tricky part.

I work full-time in a demanding job that requires me to work shifts. My shifts entail working days, lates and nights. Anyone that has worked shifts before will understand how exhausting that can be. When I am at home I try and spend all my spare time with my wife and my boys as my job keeps me away from them a lot. Then there is running the UK’s best MMA website MMAMount.com. Fortunately, for me I have a great team of writers that makes my job easy. You may wonder with all this going on when will I find time to train. This is a question posed by the wife almost on a daily basis. To me it is simple. Because I work shifts I get time with no kids and occasionally no wife so I will train then. Also, I tend to extend my working day by training just before work to minimise the impact on my family.

Being the sole bread-winner and having 3 growing boys in today’s poor financial climate is hard enough without the added costs of MMA training and MMA kit. In addition to that I plan to fight at featherweight (66kg/145lbs). This is going to take a colossal effort on my part because weight cutting is hard enough without doing it whilst working shifts! In order to help achieve my goals I have enlisted the help of a couple of sponsors:

USC Nutrition - who will be providing me with supplements to aid with training and cutting weight

UK Fightwear - who will be providing me with some equipment

Over the course of the coming months I will be documenting my trials and tribulations in these blogs. I hope you will follow me on my journey as I make the transition from writer to fighter.
