Writer to Fighter: Start of the Diet Details Published on Monday, 11 February 2013 00:44 Written by Ste Passey At the start of the year I jumped on the scales and to my dismay I weighed a whopping 13st2 (184lbs/83kg). This is the heaviest I had been for a long time and I put it down to overindulging at Christmas. On 02/01/13 I started my new eating and training regime, operation get into shape was all systems go! I started running and made my way back to Next Generation MMA for training. As for my diet I am learning as I go. I follow the simple rules of low carbs, low fat, high protein. I basically live off eggs, chicken, kidney beans, chickpeas, tuna, sardines, vegetables, salad, porridge and green tea. These are the main components to my meals. I also take daily multi-vitamins and cod liver oil. On a typical day I will eat the following: Breakfast: Small bowl of Porridge with Honey Lunch: 3-egg omelette (no milk) or Sardines with Vegetables Dinner: Chicken and Kidney Bean/Chickpea Casserole In addition to that I drink as much water and/or juice I can stomach. I also drink 2 or 3 cups of green tea per day. The first few days of this lifestyle change were hell. I had suffered my migraines and mood swings. I attribute this to my body craving the sugary energy drinks I used to consume on a daily basis. After going cold turkey for 3 or 4 days the haze cleared and I felt a million times better. My mindset has also changed: I see food more as fuel rather than a luxury. Furthermore, I now actually enjoy these meals as my tastebuds have become accustomed to my new diet. After 4 weeks of training and eating right I dropped 1st3lbs (17lbs/8kg) and weighed 11st13lbs (167lbs/75kg). This is the first time in years I have been below 12st.
